It seems that every time I write a review on video editing software I start it out with something like “With digital video becoming ever more popular and affordable it is no wonder the software to edit and manipulate it follows close behind.” I struck me that with each new product review for digital video that this becomes even more true. Take today May 16th 2006. Today you can get a small, powerful and good quality digital video camera for around $299 on sale. Today’s computers have plenty of processing power, plenty of graphics handling power, plenty of RAM and plenty of hard drive space to handle most any consumer video project. Even the speed at which you can transfer the video from the camera to the computer is better than it was a few years ago.
And, like I said the software to edit and manipulate the video is following close behind. Take the software that is the subject of this review, the Adobe Production Bundle Premium Edition. It is better than the last version of this package with each of the programs contained in it better than their previous version. They have gotten more powerful, easier to use and yes even more affordable because as features are added the price for the package stays pretty much the same. This is an improvement all the way around.
The Adobe Production Bundle Premium contains all of the software you need to compete with a professional video editing lab, but on your home computer. Now if you are going to edit video of family birthday parties, weddings, vacations and other such events the chances are the Adobe Production Bundle Premium is over kill and is more money than you would care to spend. Maybe it isn’t if you like to work with professional level tools no matter what the job is. I know a lot of people with consumer grade digital cameras that spend the extra money on Adobe Photoshop CS2 instead of the cheaper and still very competent Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. I happen to be one of them.
But, let’s get back to the Production Bundle. Included in the premium package is Adobe After Effects 7.0 Pro, Adobe Premier 2.0 Pro, Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, Adobe Audition 2.0, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe Dynamic Link, Adobe Bridge and two DVD's of training from Total Training.
The standard package which is of course cheaper includes the following programs. Adobe After Effects 7.0 Standard, Adobe Premiere 2.0 Pro, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Dynamic Link and Adobe Bridge. I don’t know if it comes with the Total Training videos as I don’t have the standard package available to see. I am betting that it comes with some form of training from Total Training, maybe just a single DVD. If the training is important, the please contact Adobe for information of what is included.
After Effects 7.0 Pro
Adobe After Effects 7.0 Pro is to motion graphics and visual effects as Adobe Dreamweaver is to web site and web page design. It just doesn’t get any better or more powerful. After Effects 7.0 Pro allows you to create compelling motion graphics and blockbuster visual effects with efficiency, precision, and infinite variety using the industry standards. Adobe After Effects 7.0 software delivers the flexibility and power you need to bring a new dimension to your film, video, and web productions.
Premiere 2.0 Pro
Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 is the real-time video editing work horse application in the Adobe Production Studio with Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 you can make every frame count it is the most scalable, efficient, and precise video editing tool available. Whether you're working with HD, HDV, SD, or DV, superior performance and a complete toolset let you work faster and more creatively to deliver the quality work you and your clients demand.
Adobe Photoshop CS2
Well, if you don’t know what Adobe Photoshop CS2 is for then you are missing out. Adobe Photoshop CS2 is perhaps the worlds best photo editing program. But, it doesn’t stop there. Besides being able to load photos from your scanner and digital camera and then allow you to correct or alter the color and exposure. It allows you to mask out parts of the photo and even combine several photos or parts of photos in to one composite image. You can also use Photoshop CS2 for creating web graphics and of course it is included in the Adobe Production Studio so that you can adjust and get creative with still photos that you want to add to your video products as well as create the background, buttons and other things for your Video DVD minus. If you need to work with a photo or web graphic Adobe Photoshop CS2 is the program to turn to.
Adobe Audition 2.0
What would video or fully interactive Video DVD menus be without incredible audio? It would be flat and lifeless. It doesn’t matter if you need to work on background music, sound effects, voiceover's or if you just want to tweak the audio that you captured with the video. Adobe Audition 2.0 is the program to use.
Adobe Encore DVD 2.0
Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 is used to create Video DVD's. It has all of the features you need to not only create and burn the Video DVD, but to create stunning fully interactive menu’s and handle the audio (for audio editing and manipulation seed Adobe Audition 2.0 above) for it as well. It is both powerful and easy to use.
Adobe Illustrator CS 2
Adobe Illustrator is a vector illustration program. If you want graphics like buttons and test and such that is going to be as clean and as sharp as possible for your projects then create them in Illustrator CS2. With Illustrator CS2’s major feature set of creative and technical tools you will be amazed at the type of graphics you can create with it. It is the perfect accompaniment to the Adobe Production Bundle.
Adobe Dynamic Link
Available only in Adobe Production Studio software, Adobe Dynamic Link provides a major step forward in workflow integration by eliminating the need to re-render compositions when moving from Adobe After Effects to Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Encore DVD software. You can view and work with motion graphics, title sequences, and visual effects in After Effects and in the Adobe Premiere Pro timeline with no need to render and import new video in Adobe Premiere Pro every time you make a change in After Effects. You can also send a DVD menu directly to After Effects for animation, export your animation from After Effects to Encore DVD as a movie file, and then add it to your menu background for a stunning motion menu — all without re-rendering. This direct link means you spend more time perfecting your productions and less time waiting for intermediate renders to be completed, thus eliminating a frustrating and time-consuming production bottleneck.
Adobe Bridge
Adobe Bridge is the navigational control center introduced with Adobe Creative Suite 2 software and now available as part of Adobe Production Studio software. Adobe Bridge provides centralized access to your project files, applications, and settings, along with XMP metadata tagging and searching capabilities. With file organization and sharing, plus Adobe Stock Photos, at your fingertips all the time, Adobe Bridge provides a more efficient creative workflow and keeps you on top of your print, web, video, and mobile projects.
Adobe Production Studio Premium is not only your one stop package for all things video, it is a great place to start for web video, web animation, DVD authoring, photo editing, illustration and technical drawing, audio editing and more. Unlike some “Suite” packages the Adobe Production Studio Premium does a lot more than just help you create incredible videos, it helps you be creative and it gives you the freedom to let your imagination sore.
